Howdy! I am Frances Arnold from the Seattle area. When I turned 18, my parents asked me about my life plans. I told them “I’m going to be a writer and a photographer!” They quickly retorted, “Oh, noooo, you aren’t. You need to become something that will earn you a living.” Ever since then, I’ve felt torn about what it means to be a writer. I pursue it as a side hobby, such as on my blog and in private emails.

I’ve always been told I’m a great writer and that I should write, but I’ve often found the process to be painful. Nonetheless, I do write, even when it sucks to write. And so far, not many people have read what I say, but I don’t always mind. Just sometimes. I find it’s easiest to write a flamboyant email to a few friends than it is to write a blog post for hundreds of strangers.

I blog at http://www.namastenutritionist.com. I write mostly about food and nutrition, and sometimes about spirituality and yoga.

P.S. I just want to emphasize that my parents weren’t trying to be mean or anything. In fact, they have encouraged me to write in addition to more stable pursuits, like medicine. Clarifying this point was important to me because I don’t think blaming and pity-parties is ever a productive way of moving forward. Thanks for understanding. =-)

Hi everyone! My name is Anita and I live in the middle of nowhere in west-central North Dakota in coal, cowboy, cattle, and oil country! I live in a small town of about 3300. I’ve been married to my best friend for about 30 years, and we have four grown children and an empty nest.

I’ve been “kind of” blogging for over six years now and still haven’t found my voice. I wish I could feel as chatty there as I do in real life…I’ve been told I’m a story teller, and I’m a teacher of the Bible by calling. I’m a mixed media and digital artist (graphic design) and have taught mixed media art journaling and folk doll e-courses, so have experience with developing lessons, filming and editing. I have a Ning community for girls and women ages 13 and over…currently have a little over 400 members. Earlier this year I felt convicted that I was compartmentalizing my faith and my vocation…and now want to develop Bible studies to teach not only in person but online as well. I’d like to develop some Kindle books and learn more about self-publishing with the expensive software I already have (Adobe Creative Suite). I do a lot of design work and sell some of my digital art journals through Etsy.

I should mention that I’m physically disabled and need to work from my home. I have a number of chronic pain issues including a constant headache that I’ve had for eight years now…I truly believe that God will help me with this course and help me get on track…I really feel I’m all over the place (being a “tad” OCD/ADD doesn’t help although I do believe that it does aid my creativity if I can stay on task).

I’m very excited about taking my first “real” writing course…when I was young, my maternal grandmother loved the stories I wrote, and I used to write little short stories just for her…she was probably the only one that loved my writing and encouraged me. My close online friends love my emails, and encouraged me to do a class on some of the “advice” that I offered them…so I’ve been writing weekly journaling lessons at Just Be Yourself (my Ning group at http://anitavanhal.com) and my sadly neglected blog is http://www.anitavanhal.com. Oh, I babble a lot…and use these…a lot too!

Aloha kakou! Yes, I’m a Hawaiian girl, but currently living in the Nashville area. Go ahead and ask me…..why am I living in Nashville when I could be in Hawaii? It’s a long story, probably a good one to put up on my blog.

I’m a writer. I have a journalism degree from back in the dark ages and had my own column in our school newspaper. I worked in radio for eight years in Dallas, Texas until I moved to TN in 1995. My husband is in the music industry, thus the move to Nashville.

I am currently teaching English, literature studies, and academic writing to 9th-12th grade homeschool students who wish to enter college. Sort of like a combination of Honors and AP classes. I’ve been teaching in various tutorials (sort of like private school classrooms for homeschoolers) in the Nashville area for ten years, and have homeschooled both of my children (ages 24 and 17).

I learned about Jeff Goins at this year’s Quitter Conference. I am looking forward to learning all about this new world of virtual writing and all that it has to offer me.

I have two blogs which are dusty at the moment:

http://www.roneiharden.com (my personal blog that is currently under a re-vamp)
http://www.randomthoughtsaloud.com (an online creative writing magazine for my students)

Looking forward to future banterings with my fellow writers. :)

    Hi all,

I’m a writer and reviewer sometimes known as a 21st Century Grandma (also the name of column at http://www.primethemagazine.com). I’m from Wisconsin and have been freelancing for 6 years, and blogging for a few. I’ve published hundreds of inspirational, teaching and current events, non-fiction articles and stories for traditional anthologies, magazines, newsletters and on the internet. I have a work in progress and am in the process of redesigning my blog around that topic - Be the Miracle. I’m here because
    a) the editor who reviewed the first draft of the book proposal also suggested I have a tribe/platform and b) because he said if I can only get the publisher to read my stories…(did you notice that IF? I sure did!)
    and
    c) I want to pinpoint what I should be able to offer a tribe that they need and want and
    d) how to reach the tribe via blog, twitter, etc.
    e) learn about tags, SEO, and how to design and work the blog work effectively
    f) make the Facebook author page something worthwhile
all while having time to write and edit quality material

Hoping for a bit much, you think ? And in 8 lessons no less :)

    Hello!

I’m a twenty-six-year-old wife, writer, North Carolinian and owner of one American Eskimo pup, Clara. For 1, 095 days and counting, I’ve been struggling with multiple chronic illnesses including Epstein Barr Virus. However, I count it an honor to be opened up to passion and compassion for those who chronically suffer. Over the past three years, how the Holy Spirit can bring words of life to the painful, dying, and mundane places, has become especially clear.

Though since my teenage years, I can’t remember I time where I didn’t write, I am now throwing myself out into the big world of blogging. This week I plan on launching the blog and free eBook which have come out of this current experience of mine.

I’m confident I will learn much in this course. I’m excited to scrawl out the words here with you all.

    Kindly,
    Rachel

I’m Judy Hagey - a Midwesterner currently living in central Florida, hence my original blog moniker: A Yankee Woman in the South. Most of the writing I’ve done has been “to assignment” - a stringer for a regional daily, public relations writing at a Christian college, and human interest stories. I’ve struggled to find my own voice. Hoping this course will be useful and looking forward to the support and encourage of other tribe seekers.

Hello, everyone. My name is Afrika Afeni Mills. I’m originally from Brooklyn, New York, and I’ve been living in the Boston area for the past 16 years. My husband and I have been married for 15 wonderful years, and we have two incredible children (almost 10 and 11). Professionally, I am a Curriculum and Instruction Director for a non-profit organization which focuses on educating students about the justice system, civics, and American History.

I’ve been writing for a long time, and I am making a commitment to stop being stymied by fear and busyness, and, instead, to write regularly. I have allowed myself to be discouraged for far too long, and I joined the Tribe Writers to abate feelings of isolation, for accountability, and encouragement. I believe that God has gifted me with the ability to do beautiful things with words, and it’s time for me to stop burying that gift. I definitely believe that finding my tribe will help me to fulfill my purpose in life.

I’d love to be in touch with anyone who wants to connect:
