My name is Denise and I have always loved writing journals and letters. 15 years ago I began writing for several newspaper columns locally for our local University of California extension. Most of my columns have focused on research based horticultural and gardening advice and I have created content for several pilot programs designed to educate the public about wildfire danger, forest health, etc. I occasionally edit for other people, and I am the person that finds misspellings and grammatical errors in almost everything. Now I am involved in a new project that will require a larger means of reaching people, presenting information, and alternative solutions. Daunting, but exciting.
So I am happy to be amongst you all.October 13, 2024 at 2:31 pm #1711I read some of the introductions and I am inspired and proud to be a part of this class. Looks like a lot of people ( not sure how many yet) and I hope to get to know you all and read your work. My blog is kathleencaron.com “a million reasons why” and I write about culture, faith and family. I work for a small nonprofit that supports missions in Sierra Leone. I live in Northern Virginia outside DC and am a long time advocate for Compassion. Cheers!
October 13, 2024 at 7:53 pm #1721Please excuse my tardiness to introduce myself. I’m 43 days away from my wedding day, but I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to join this group and receive such priceless training. I’m Monica, and I live in Atlanta, GA. By day, I am a Tech Writer. I have dreams of being published one day. I know I have a ways to go, though. Right now, I need to work on foundational things like discipline - making time to write and writing regularly - connecting with other writers, and learning as much as I can about the craft and the publishing industry, and simply becoming confident in my own voice and my own message (as I work to identify them both).
I blog at http://www.becompletelyyou.com. I’d also love to connect on Twitter. @a_girlseyeview
I look forward to connecting with Jeff and each one of you all. I’ve been looking for a writing group for quite some time. Hopefully, I’ll find one here.
October 13, 2024 at 7:57 pm #1722BTW, can anyone tell me how to get a picture up on my profile?
October 14, 2024 at 1:09 am #1730Hi everyone - I’m Emily from Lexington, KY. I am a social media consultant (after jumping from the corporate world after 10 years of brand management) and blogger at http://www.skinnyemmie.com. My blog has really helped me develop my voice and find my tribe. It started out strictly as a weight loss blog, but has turned into something that seems to resonate with people just passionate about fitness, health, and overcoming self-doubt to live the best life possible.
I want to write a weight loss/self acceptance memoir, but also have an interest in YA and contemporary women’s fiction. I’m currently dabbling in freelance writing for a few health/fitness publications.
Would love to connect with you all. Twitter @skinnyemmie Facebook: http://facebook.com/skinnyemmie Web: http://skinnyemmie.com
October 14, 2024 at 2:22 pm #1737I’m Jan Arzooman from Queen, NY. I’m arriving late to this — I didn’t want to miss the course, but I had a huge deadline this week. I have been writing my whole life, and have a newspaper reporting background. In more recent years I’ve worked at magazines and journals, and since being laid off almost two years ago, I work as a temp medical editor and a freelance editor.
I enjoy blogging and I do like editing fiction, but I want to be writing it more. I have tried the National Novel Writing Month in the past and don’t want to be sucked into that again. It ends up being a disaster. I am currently thinking about starting a play. Of course I am always reading. My other interests are cats, motorcycles, hiking and camping, walking around the city, playing guitar, and creative endeavors like hand-made t-shirts or mosaics.

October 15, 2024 at 11:40 pm #1789Hi, I’m Peter DeHaan and I’m getting to this party late. (I had commitments that were a priority last week). I hope I can soon catch up with everyone!

October 16, 2024 at 12:52 am #1792Hi there Tribe
I am also late to the party but I have been following you all and am really impressed (if not a little daunted) by the amazing talent out there.
My name is Kelly and I am at the very early stages of establishing myself as a freelance writer and building my website platform http://www.peytonwriter.com
Writing has been a passion of mine since early childhood. But I have spent the last 25 years in a corporate environment, working primarily as a strategist. I still work today in my strategic consulting business at http://www.lansseni.co.nz
However over the last few years a number of people have crossed my path and offered me some kind of insight or opportunity to realize my dream of becoming a writer. A few weeks ago I read Jeff’s ‘You Are a Writer (So Start Acting Like One)’ on a business trip from New Zealand to Hong Kong. In that moment I decided to take the next step - and now here I am.
I am interested in a diverse range of genre including corporate ghostwriting, everyday memoir, social commentary, travel writing and poetry (which I haven’t written since I was 14yrs!)
I don’t know where my journey as a writer will take me. I just know that I am supposed to be right here, right now.
I hope to connect with you through these forums (I am in New Zealand so might not typically make the conference calls!) But you can also find me at http://www.peytonwriter.com or on email [email protected]
(Any feedback or suggestions on my website would be very welcome - still loading up pages etc)Cheers
Kels
October 16, 2024 at 10:13 pm #1807Hello Everyone!!
I am late in introducing myself, but I have been following along with the course. It is exciting to see how active of a community this has become.
My name is Lauren Huss. I live in Napa Valley, CA. I feel like I am a bit of a late bloomer when it comes to this blogging thing, but I have been a little busy raising my family. My kids are grown now and I have an opportunity to follow a passion that I have had since I was a little girl.
Many thanks to Jeff for providing this great course along with his inspiring books! I look forward to “meeting” all of you and reading your stuff, as well as hearing your feedback on mine…I must admit, that last part is a bit scary, though;)I have a baby blog at: http://Livinglifewrite.com
See you all in class!
October 16, 2024 at 11:21 pm #1809Great to meet you all. My name is Stephanie and I live in the Boston area. I’m also a late-bloomer
Not just in this course, either, friends…I’ve had a busy past few weeks so haven’t been super-actively involved here, although I have been following along and listening to the podcasts and doing some of the exercises, although not all.
My passions are open water swimming (sometimes called wild swimming), yoga, reading, cooking, writing, connecting with friends and family and generally trying to re-invent myself at 60. This course is a lot of fun. It’s provoking me to think and consider things from a new perspective. I like the push and I like the inspiration of doing this as others are doing “it”, too. Thank you, Jeff Goins, for your materials, insights and support! -
