Fellow classmates - as someone who is used to trial and error, I put together my blog using the Tribe theme. For those who plan to use this theme as part of Jeff’s gift package to new members, please do yourself a favor and check it out. Here’s why:
If you look it over and like what I was able to figure out, I can help you with your blog/theme. And if you don’t like what you see, you can kindle critique that back to me which will help you from making the same mistake as well.Who’s in? Please check me out at http://www.jeffreypickett.com.
Thanks!

Hey Jeff,
When I click on the link, it takes me to the “website coming soon” page. You may still need to choose to publish your blog for it to be visible!

Try it now, Sarah. I am grateful that you found the site as you did, allowing me to fix it. But all is better now.
Thanks!

I like the Tribe Writers theme but the problem is that they don’t have many settings to make it different from one another without getting into the code. I think I did a decent job with mine to make it look different, but I still have the feeling that both, yours and mine, still look very alike. WHat do you think?

Sure, they are similar, but I get a LOT of comments on how clean my theme looks. That’s a first compared to my other blogs I’ve had.
You use black, I use red.
You have a graphic at the top, I don’t (currently)
Your footer widgets differ. So we’re cousins, but there’s nothing wrong with that, right?
One thing I see that may be intentional - maybe not. In your read more/continue box for people to click on - it says “Cont;nue” versus Continue.
Al in all - I think it looks great - the “hand-drawn circle around your pic in the side bar - very cool!

Hahah, I like the cousins thing =P I agree, it looks way cleaner than the previous one I had too, and some people have mention that. I think after all, as Jeff (Goins) says, it is designer to focus on the main thing that is reading.
The Cont;nue is on purpose. It has to do with a new tattoo that I got and the Semicolon project, in case you are curious.

I haven’t tried the Tribe theme yet. I have a blog on WP.com, and a website on WP.org. I think that the Tribe theme can only be used on WP.org, is that correct?
At any rate, your site does look clean and easy to read. I like Alba’s site, too, and I never would have known the two of you both have the same theme until I read this thread.
Nice job!

Kate:
Yes, I believe it must be self-hosted, but it has helped me minimalize against what I would have done using a different theme. Overall, I’m very happy with it.
Regarding, My World is Under Construction on your site, I am very sorry about losing your mom. My grandfather died on August 8, 2000. I still think about him, even after all these years. Their memories are our gift, although painful at times.
Please consider this - as I compile posts for the month of January to help people starting over - would you mind putting together something that would help others in their grief and loss of a loved one? I think a writer, such as yourself, has a gift in expressing what that feels like and how to move forward.
If that is something you’d be interested in, please let me know.
Blessings,
Jeff

Hi Jeff,
Thank you for your condolences. With Christmas in just a couple of days, I feel very off-balance, as I spent almost every Christmas with her my whole life. I think the only two I missed were when I lived in Colorado and she was in NH.
I’m sorry about your grandfather. Some people affect us so deeply we can’t help but think about them regularly, no matter how much time has passed.
I love your idea for a guest post. I will email you so we can hammer out the details.
Have a writerly day!

Hey guys,
It’s been a long time since I lost people (both grandfathers) but I would love to write something about it if that is okay with you two. I think I can give a different perspective, especially seeing my family cope withit. One of them died after Christmas but we spent all the holidays at the hospital. I was very little and it was very sad.
Let me know if you would be interested and happy holidays!
