Hello Jamie, my name is Taylor Nix.
I just viewed the The Step-by-Step Guide to Launching Your Own Blog as well as WordPress 101 and I was curious about something.

Does your blog make more of an impact or get noticed easier if you pay for your own domain name?

Obviously I plan to invest in a permanent blog domain name that doesn’t have .wordpress behind it at some point, but I was just wondering if that is something I need to prioritize or do first.

Hey Taylor! I think buying your domain name soon is the best way to go. It’s a small investment (just like $10 a year) and will save you from having to change the name down the road. Even if you aren’t ready to go self-hosted, I’d say go ahead and grab the domain name now.
